Structural adhesives started relatively late and developed rapidly. The emergence of building structural adhesives dates back to the early 1980s. In 1978, the load-bearing beams of a substation building in Liaoyang Chemical Fiber Factory, which was built with assistance from France, were found to have cracks due to insufficient reinforcement in the design. After the building was completed, several beams developed cracks. Later, the French side used the French Xikaduer 31 # building structural adhesive to stick steel plates to the bottom of the beams for reinforcement, repair the cracks, and achieve the original design strength, restoring their normal use function. This achieved the effect of saving labor, capital, reliability, and safety. Then, in 1980, the Ministry of Construction officially issued the subject of "development and application technology promotion of building structural adhesive", which was jointly tackled by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liaoning Institute of Building Science. In 1983, the project was completed and China's first practical JGN type building structural adhesive was developed, filling the gap in China's reinforcement materials.
